At the beginning of June we held Mega Man Day where the men of our childrens’ families could come into school to see what we get up to! They helped us with lots of different activities in the classroom and outside on the field.
On Thursday 30th June 30 children from Thorpedene attended the Children’s University graduation ceremony at South Essex College in Southend. They received their awards from the Deputy Principal of the college, Anthony McGarel. There were some very happy and proud faces at the ceremony and that was just the parents! We would like to congratulate the children on their achievements and hope to see them back again next year for a higher award. The Children’s University Summer programme of activities will be published soon with lots of free activity suggestions for the children to earn credits. Don’t forget the Summer reading challenge at all Southend libraries where the children can earn up to 10 hours of credit for their passport.
If you need any more information check out the Children’s University page on our website.
Have a happy and safe Summer earning credits.

On Tuesday 21st June 2016, the Key Stage 2 Athletics team attended the Southend Borough Sports. All the children performed to the best of their ability and were a credit to the school. Well done to all children for their fantastic personal achievements and their exceptional behaviour throughout the day!
In their final match of the season after falling behind, our boys kept positive and battled back to win 2 – 1 against a strong Heycroft team.
The boys have won the league without losing a match. Our league results have been…

Thorpedene 1 Westborough 0

On Tuesday 15th March, 27 excited children from Year 2 travelled to The Freight House, Rochford, to sing at this year’s Infant Music Festival.
Following 3 weeks of giving up some lunchtimes in order to rehearse, the children’s hard work and commitment resulted in an enthusiastic and musical performance of ‘Weather-boy, Weather-girl’ and ‘Extreme Weather’, accompanied by Mrs Dunlop at the piano. The choir performed with confidence to an audience comprising three other school choirs, parents and carers. They also accompanied one of the massed songs, showing their competence in using percussion instruments.
All of the children, looking smart in Thorpedene jumpers and ties, were impeccably behaved and were good ambassadors for our school. (They even remembered to thank the coach driver!)
Mrs Dunlop would like to thank Mrs Rowe for helping to rehearse the choir and Mrs Bassett and Mrs Cook for their invaluable help on the day. Our year 2 choir were wonderful and made us very proud!
Our new building, named ‘The Bridge’ was officially opened on Friday 27th November.
As you can see, we made the afternoon even more special for our children by inviting along some friends from Adventure Island, Great Wakering Rovers and Southend United.
All of the children’s names were entered into a prize draw, where they had the chance to win free tickets and wristbands.
Our community were then invited to enjoy drinks and biscuits whilst looking around after school.
A great way to end the week!
Just keep your eyes peeled for that cheeky Croc!
BOYS’ KICK OFF SEASON WITH TWO WINS
Two teams of boys from our Upper Phase Boys’ Football Squad represented our school in our first friendlies of the season against St. Mary’s.
Thorpedene A (Blue) 3 St. Mary’s A 0
Thorpedene B (Purple) 2 St. Mary’s B 1
The boys went home happy after working really hard and playing well.
Congratulations to all players involved and we now look forward to an exciting season ahead.
Many more of our squad will be making their debut in an upcoming match against Greenways.
All support is always very welcome!
Congratulations to our Summer Holiday Homework Champions who had a tea party this afternoon. Miss Walsh had a very hard job choosing these Champions as there was such a lot of fabulous work given in. Everyone had worked so hard and did some amazing things over the summer. After looking at all of the homework and some very hard decisions, her final choices can be seen in the photo. Congratulations to everyone who gave in some homework and especially well done to our champions.
